Michigan will be represented by two women’s hockey teams at this year’s Division 2 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Tournament in St. Louis.
Both Northern Michigan University (NMU) and Central Michigan University (CMU) earned the honor of competing on the national stage beginning this weekend.
State Reps. Karl Bohnak and Jerry Neyer, who represent NMU and CMU respectively, today issued statements wishing the teams well as they prepare for the tournament:
“Ice hockey runs through the veins of U.P. residents,” said Bohnak, R-Deerton. “The entire U.P. is behind our Wildcats as they travel to St. Louis to compete for a national title. These girls have fought all year, and I know they’ll bring that same U.P. spirit to the national tournament.”
“Central Michigan has built a remarkable season, and it’s exciting to see their hard work pay off with a trip to the national tournament,” said Neyer, R-Shepherd. “These young athletes have shown skill, perseverance, and teamwork all year, and I have no doubt they will make CMU proud as they compete in St. Louis.”
NMU and CMU begin tournament play this weekend when they face off against each other at 7:30 p.m. EST on Sunday.
